Self Certify 28 Days. Statutory sick pay. The government has extended the time period that employees can self-certify sick from seven days to 28 days as it attempts to relieve pressure on GPs delivering the Covid-19 booster rollout.
Just posting for others who may not yet be aware that you can now self certify for 28 days if you are unwell. It is all hands to the pump to get all adults in the UK a Covid-19 booster vaccine by the end of January. In a change to the Statutory Sick Pay SSP Regulations employees are now permitted to self-certify sickness for up to 28 days until 26 January 2022.
Members of staff are now able to self-certify sickness absence for up to 28 days whereas previously they could only self-certify absences of up to 7 days.

They now only need to attend a GP for a fit note if they have been ill for more than 28 days and have taken sick leave. The third occasion can only be used after the end of Term 3 2022.
