Narcolepsy. Its primary symptom is excessive daytime sleepiness EDS which occurs because the brain is unable to properly regulate wakefulness and sleep. Patients often have disturbed nocturnal sleep and pathological manifestations related to rapid eye movement REM sleep.
Attacks of drowsiness may persist for only a few seconds or several minutes. Narcolepsy usually begins in teenagers or young. Narcolepsy is an uncommon disorder that causes periods of extreme daytime sleepiness and sudden brief episodes of deep sleep during the day.
If you have narcolepsy you are likely to become drowsy or to fall asleep at inappropriate times and places.
Narcolepsy is a chronic disease of the central nervous system. People with narcolepsy may feel rested after waking but then feel very sleepy throughout much of the day. At various times throughout the day people with narcolepsy experience overpowering bouts of sleep. These sleep attacks may happen with or without warning.
